PCS - December 2013 ~ Naturally Winter

Winters frigid days have crept in while our attentions were focused on the gift-giving holiday.  Soon our surroundings will be transformed from brightly-colored holiday lights to neutral colors of the winter season.

Our December issue celebrates beautifully muted colors of the season.   The bases of the projects are inspired by woody bark and snow-covered, leaf-less trees.  Insert a splash of color from the winter cardinal, glistening snowflakes or sparkling icicles and you have a “Naturally Winter” issue.

In this issue you will find nature-favored greeting cards, winter linen bags, snowman-survival kits and the "Collections Container" template of the month.

Here is a sneak peek of my card.  Head on over to the Paper Crafter Sampler and see the other sneak peeks and pick up your copy today.

Merry Christmas Card

Here is a card I made using the new Expressions Thinlits Dies in the Holiday Catalog.  If you have not heard the trick with the thinlit dies; use a sheet of wax paper between the die and cardstock and use your paper-piercing tool on the back side of the die to help pop out the cut-out.

On this card, I layered the Merry on the card front with Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive.  I wanted to give it a different look.  This card is a good way to use up some scraps from the Season of Style Designer Series Paper Stack for the tags and for the inside of the card.

This is a little new for me but this is one of the simplest Christmas cards I have made in awhile.  I guess I could not leave it that way; to me it looked like it was missing something.  I went back to the card and embossed the crumb cake layer but I trimmed it wrong and I had to change the card base around and added another layer.  Look below.

I do like the crumb cake layer embossed but I don't think you have to add the additional layer.  I do like the Old Olive Card base with the Cherry Cobbler Ribbon.

Let me know what you think!

Altered Mini Composition Book-Swallowtail Butterfly

Front

Back

Here's an Altered Mini Composition Book I made for my daughter's teacher using the Swallowtail Stamp Set. I stamped with Versa Mark than the Baked Brown Sugar Ink and embossed than clear embossing powder.  I used the Aqua Painter and Ink pads to color the image.  When I was finished I painted the image with the Retired Champagne Shimmer Paint.  I used the new in-colors.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Karen

Christmas Six-Sided Sampler Card

1st card

2nd Card

Here's a couple cards I made the other day.  This was the first time I played with the Six-Sided Sampler and Hexagon Punch.  I have seen so many great cards using this stamp set.  I wanted to use it to make a Christmas Card.  I started with a piece of Crumb Cake and layer it with the hexagons.  After I finished the 1st card, I realized the patterns did not line up correctly and it was driving me crazy, so I sat down and made another one. I changed the card base and added another layer.

Let me know what you think.

Best of Halloween Stamp Card

Here's a quick Halloween Card I made using the Best of Halloween Stamp Set.  This stamp set has some of of favorite Halloween Images, they are just a little smaller than the original stamp set.  I also used the new Witches' Brew Designer Series Paper - I think this is the only time I use the Summer Starfruit Ribbon I got free a few months back.  I find this color hard to use but I do like it for Halloween.  Below is a different angle of the card.

I used card sketch 168 from Pals Paper Arts.

Retake - Special Season Christmas Card

This is very similar to the card I posted yesterday.  To be honest this was the first card I made.  With this card I used the Naturals Ivory paper and lightly sponged over the paper with Baked Brown Sugar to make it a little darker.  I used a retired Old Olive Craft Ink to stamp and emboss in Iridescent Ice Emboss Powder.  If you don't have a Old Olive Craft Ink Pad, you can ink the stamp first in VersaMark Ink than the Old Olive Classic Ink before stamping your image.  Instead of using the Deco Label Framelits, I used the Oval Accent Bigz Clear Die to mat behind the tree.  I can't decide on which one I like better.

Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Karen

Special Season goes Vintage

Inside of Card
This is the card I made using the Special Season Stamp Set in the New Holiday Catalog.  In the catalog they show it in Silver but I thought it looked great in the Gold.  You may be looking at the DSP and wondering why it is not bright white?  Well I don't do bright white as much as I guess I should.  I thought the Gold, Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive look better with the Natural Ivory.  I lightly sponged over it with the Baked Brown Sugar Ink to give it an aged look.  If you are a bright white person, you can make this card without sponging.   The DSP paper is from the Season of Style DSP Stack, this print is normally, Whisper White stripes with the Cherry Cobbler.  The Paper Stack is a little different from the 12 x 12 Season of Style. The 12 x 12 has more prints, I really wished the plaid that is in the 12 x 12 was in the paper stack. The paper stack is great for cards, it is the prefect size for the traditional card.

If you have any questions, leave a comment or send me an email.

Mojo Monday Sketch 305

Here's a card that I came up with using this week's Mojo Sketch #305.  I could not make up my mind on what stamp set to use.  I pulled out the Field Flowers Stamp Set, I can't believe that I have not used this stamp set yet.  It is not new, I just waited to make sure it was not going to retire and got it this spring.  I have loved so many cards made this stamp set.  The flowers are made using the two-step Stamping process.  I first stamped with Crisp Cantaloupe and than Calypso Coral (the Calypso, I stamped on my mat first than stamp over the Crisp Cantaloupe so it was not as bright).  I cut out my flowers and sponged with baked brown sugar.  I lightly covered the flowers with my glue pen and added some Dazzling Diamonds Glitter.  The watermark spots I added using the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set.

Let me know what you thing, leave a comment.

Simply Sketched Christmas Card

I am not sure about you, I love the New Holiday Catalog but was not happy with the selection of Christmas Stamp Sets.  There are not a lot of my style stamp sets.  I know I may need to change my style but I find that if I am not crazy about a stamp it is hard for me to be creative with that stamp.  I have bought enough of popular stamps because I see some great samples.  Of course I know it is not my style and it will sit on my shelf until it retires.  I am trying not to do that this year.

This year, I am looking through my stamps and see what Christmas Cards I can create using some non-Christmas stamp sets, like the card above.  If you have not noticed the Simply Sketched Hostess Stamp Set in the Big Catalog, pg 205.  You should really take a look at it.  I love that stamp set.  If you like to watercolor a little, this is your stamp.  I am not sure the name of the branch image, but I saw berries and I thought, oh I will color those red and make that a Christmas branch.  I stamped the image twice in Gold Ink and Embossed with the Gold Embossing powder.  The button is from the Very Vintage Designer Buttons that I inked and embossed with Gold.  I had to include the new Baked Brown Sugar Ruffle Stretch Trim - (I love this ribbon and the new in-colors).  Lately I have been sponging my edges with the Baked Brown Sugar instead of my old stand-by Soft Suede.  It is just a little lighter in color than the Soft Suede but I think it gives it a nice hue.  Below is a look at the inside.

Now don't get me wrong, I did purchase some Christmas Stamps from the new Holiday Catalog. In the next couple days I will be showing you a card using the "Special Season" Stamp from the Holiday Catalog.  I am not sure how many people purchased this stamp set but I liked it (I also usually pick the stamp set that is less popular and it does not carry over.)  :o(

I also used this sketch from Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch Challenge.  I usually save card sketches to my pinterest board so they are in one place.

If you have any questions, leave a comment or send me an email.

Truly Grateful Masculine Birthday Card

Hello All - I know it has been a while since I have posted a card.  I am sorry, I have been a little busy with family life, which has made it hard for me to create.  I don't want to bore you with the details but I think I am starting to get my creative ideas coming again and have a little time to create and post.  Anyway.  I have three different post schedule for the next few days (two Christmas ones).  I hope to continue to create and post.  If you have any questions please send me an email or leave a comment.  If you want to place an order please, click on the link on the left sidebar or give me a call.   I am not sure if anyone is interested but I can start to have a Mystery Hostess / Hostess Code each week or every other week.  Just let me know if you are interested.  If you are not sure on what this is, please let me know.  I will be happy to give more information. Well enough talk look below at what I made a week ago.

Here's a card that I made using the new Truly Grateful Stamp Set in the New Holiday Catalog.  Instead of making it into a Thanksgiving card, I made a Teen Boy Birthday Card.  I was totally inspired by Jan Tink's Card, which can be found here.   She is truly gifted.  You can look at the inside below.
